Casa do Douro

As part of this new institutional organisation, the role of the Casa do Douro was redefined so as to enhance its nature as an association, emphasize its role as a representative of the farmers and give emphasis to the support it gives to production. Thus, the Casa do Douro continues to be a public association to which all farmers must belong and whose contractual relations with third parties are subject to commercial and civil law.

The new organic structure of the Casa do Douro is directed at ensuring the strengthening of the associative network of the DDR and at guaranteeing that the composition of the Regional Council is truly representative of the socio-professional reality of the region. Accordingly, and in respect of the Constitutional principle that defends the democratic organisation of public associations, the Casa do Douro shall consist of a Regional Council appointed by direct ballot by all farmers registered with the Casa do Douro (the Regional Council shall also be served by a Permanent Committee elected from the members of the Council), a Board of Directors and an Auditing Committee, both elected by the Regional Council.
