The finals of the 12th Master of Port contest will be held on the 20th March, at the Hotel Lutécia in Paris.

One of the most prestigious events of its kind, the Master of Port is sponsored by the IVDP and organized by the Syndicat des Grands Marques de Porto and the USDF (French Sommelier Union). Andresen, Ferreira, Graham’s, Gran Cruz, Niepoort, Ramos Pinto, Rozès, Sandeman and Taylor’s also sponsor the event.

The first Master of Porto was held in 1988. In 2004 the IVDP and the S.G.M.P. took over the handling of the contest, considered by sommeliers as one of the most important.

The IVDP is a firm supporter of this contest, which reaches out to the elite of sommeliers and helps them better know and appreciate Port. It is also in keeping with the objectives of the promotional campaign that, since 2003, has targeted both sommeliers associations and catering colleges.

The exams are set by a technical committee named by the USDF, and headed by its president, Serge Dubs. Four former winners of the Master of Port are also members of the committee.

The winner of this year’s edition will be treated to a holiday in Portugal valid for two people
