Wine on Earth – Taste-a-Thon

NEWS

After last year’s successful event, the IVDP is again taking part in the second annual Wine on Earth Taste-a-Thon!, that takes place on Thursday, June 17 and is organized by the Wine Origins Alliance (WOA), based in the US.

The event is held to promote the Wine Origins Alliance and its members as well as the wines of each member region.

In 2020, events spanned the globe with activities ranging from virtual tastings to tutorials and wine chats. Format and platform are chosen by the participant and all events are featured on the www.wineonearth.org website and promoted to media and members of the wine trade.

The first-ever Wine on Earth Taste-A-Thon was held around the globe, from Europe to America and Australia with 14 Alliance members participating, with a total of 35 tastings throughout the day. The hashtag #WineOnEarth and #LocationMatters reached almost 280 000 people, with over 1 million impressions on Facebook, potentially reaching over 600 000 wine fans.

The Wine Origins Alliance, of which the PDO Porto is a founder member, was created in 2005 to educate policymakers and consumers around the world about the importance of place names while actively lobbying for their protection. Napa Valley, Oregon, Walla Walla Valley, Washington, Willamette Valley, Champagne, Jerez-Xérès-Sherry were the other founding members. WOA global coalition has now grown to 31 members in 11 countries spanning North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.
