Formerly an economist, Turgut now resides with his family in Urla, Turkey, having relocated from Mendoza, Argentina, where he lived from 2021 to 2023. Over the course of three decades, he built a distinguished senior career in investment banking and NGO management. His lifelong passion for wine eventually inspired him to embark on a second professional path in the wine industry. He earned his WSET Diploma in Wines & Spirits in 2017 and pursued studies at the Institute of Masters of Wine. In addition to being a Certified Port Educator, he is accredited by both WSET and the Sake Sommelier Association as an educator in wine, spirits, and sake. He also holds a Winemaking Certificate from UC Davis. Turgut currently serves as the founding President of the Turkish Society of Wine Experts and Educators, and he imports Argentinian and Chilean wines into Turkey and Greece. He received his BSc in Economics from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, followed by graduate degrees in international relations and economics from Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) and the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also pursued doctoral studies in monetary economics at Marmara University in Istanbul, completing all coursework except the dissertation.
